Ask a Master Gardener

The Master Gardener Helpline volunteers are available for your garden and yard questions.

  • Email questions to: mastergardener@shastacollege.edu
  • Call us at (530) 242-2219
  • You can also bring your questions to the Master Gardener Booth at the Saturday Farmers Market behind Redding City Hall
  • Ask your question on our Facebook page 

When leaving a message, include the following:

  • Name
  • Phone number and/or email
  • Your location within Shasta County. 

Please provide as much pertinent information about the problem as possible, such as:

  • Name of plant
  • Age of plant
  • Soil type (loam, sandy, clay)
  • Current watering methods (drip, sprinkler, hand)
  • Frequency of watering
  • Sun exposure
  • Evidence of insects or other damage – check on both sides of leaves
  • Recent changes that may have affected the plant (water, fertilizer, etc.)
  • Photos related to your question/issue are very helpful. If possible, include them in an email to us.

The Master Gardener Helpline is staffed by volunteers. It may take a few days to respond to your questions. Leave your message and a Master Gardener will be happy to contact you.

Request a Speaker

Master Gardeners are available to give talks on various horticultural topics to local garden clubs, citizen groups, school groups, community gardens and various other organizations.

To request a speaker, please contact Master Gardeners at:

When contacting us for a speaker, please provide us with the following information:

  • Name of the group requesting speaker
  • Contact name
  • Phone
  • Email
  • When (date/time)
  • Where
  • Topic to be covered   
  • Length of talk (typically 1 hour or less)

 

We will check with the Master Gardener Coordinator and will make every effort to respond to your request within one week.
