The Monterey County 4-H Camp program, Camp McCandless, will be held at Camp MayMac in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This site features a full kitchen, swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, hiking trails, cabins and much more. This year’s dates are June 21-26, 2026.
Camp Counselors applications are now available on the 4-H Monterey County website and must be filled out by November 7th at 4pm. Interviews will be held Monday, November 17th beginning at 6:00 PM, location Ag Conference center, 1432 Abbott St, Salinas.

Each Teen Counselor must submit 2 letters of recommendation from the following: 4-H Community Club Leader (club) 4-H Project Leader (non- family member) Teacher, Coach, Leader or other (non family member). Please download and use this form. Teen applicants are to make sure the letters are received at the 4-H offices by the due date November 7th. Please use US mail.

Additional forms will be due for those teens selected for this position. They will be notified of these forms and their due dates.
This is considered a Leadership Position. Please support the youth to apply, provide letters of recommendation and be part of an interview process. These steps are taken into consideration as “points” towards acceptance. Those selected will be notified. Currently, 4-H Camp Counselor meetings will take place the typically the 4th Monday of the month starting in January and ending in June.
4-H Teen Counselors provide much needed support to the Camp staff. This role includes supervision of the youth during day and evening activities, mentoring new skills for youth, planning areas of camp, developing teamwork with others, being role models, creating a safe environment, reducing risks and much more.
The process for being accepted as a teen counselor has additional parameters included in the application process. These take place before and during the camp program year. Please review these expectations carefully before committing to this role. Being a Camp Teen Counselors also creates points towards the Leader’s Council $1,000 education scholarship.
