UC Cooperative Extension Imperial County

Livestock

Program Overview & Goals

Brooke Latack supports livestock producers in Imperial, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties through programs on nutrition, management practices, environmental factors, and other key issues affecting the desert region’s livestock industry. She works with operations of all sizes, from backyard producers to large feedlots, and conducts applied research at the Desert Research and Extension Center to identify strategies that improve feedlot productivity, including nutrition, feed additives, implant strategies, and heat management.

Brooke is also active in community outreach through newsletters and podcasts like CattleCal, as well as programs with FFA, 4-H, and the Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program (IVROP), which offers summer livestock internships for high school students. She serves on multiple committees and panels and contributed to the development of the Small Acreage Landowners website https://ucanr.edu/site/small-acreage-landowners a one-stop resource for backyard livestock producers, youth raising livestock, and other small-acreage landowners. The site provides information in English and Spanish on livestock husbandry, pasture management, pest and predator control, weed management, and emergency preparedness.

Brooke can be reached at (442) 265-7700.
