It’s October in the Garden time! This week, Master Gardeners Teena Spindler and Katrina Kirkeby bring you the This Month In The Garden show on In The Garden with UC Master Gardeners of Orange County.
Tasks start with a good work up of the soil. Just like in Spring, amend and fertilize and dig deep. Get your cool season crops planned. Root vegetables? Consider seeds. With six packs, you could end up with bundles of beets or bushes of lettuce! Maintain your perennial flower garden by thinning out plants like alstroemeria and bulbs. Annuals like pansies, cineraria, dianthus, and California Poppies will provide color until April or May. BUT, beware of rabbits who love to eat your pansies like they were candy! Think “swaths of color” with your annuals! You’ll be amazed!
