Healthy soil is the key to growing healthy plants, but what is healthy soil? How do you know if you have it? With some hands-on demonstrations, we will also discuss soil texture, porosity and movement of air, water, and nutrients in soil.

Presenter Niki Vollrath is a UC Master Gardener of San Diego County, Class of 2023. She holds a B.S. in Soil Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and a M.S. in Tropical Agriculture from University of Hawaii - Manoa. She was a Soil Scientist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Hawaii and California.

10 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Grow Your Garden, where you can swap succulents, seeds, fruit, vegetables and herbs from your garden with your neighbors.

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Workshop, where you can learn new gardening techniques.
