Content Governance
What is content governance?
Content governance provides a shared framework for how UC ANR web content is created, managed and maintained. It helps establish standards and best practices so that our web presence is accessible, consistent, accurate and useful to the people we serve.
Governance does not mean that all content is centrally managed. UC ANR teams continue to manage their own websites, blogs and content while following organization-wide web, accessibility and brand standards.
Why is content governance important?
With many sites, programs and content editors across UC ANR, shared standards help create a more consistent experience for visitors and make our web content easier to manage over time.
Our content governance approach helps:
- Support accessible, user-centered web content.
- Promote consistency in site structure, navigation and content practices.
- Reduce outdated, redundant or fragmented content.
- Improve the organization and discoverability of information.
- Establish clear expectations for ongoing content ownership and maintenance.
Content Governance Council
The Content Governance Council brings together perspectives from across UC ANR to help inform web content standards, practices and priorities. The council serves in an advisory capacity, helping identify organizational needs, provide feedback and support a consistent approach to managing UC ANR's web presence.
Content governance is a shared responsibility. UC ANR IT, content owners, site administrators and editors all play a role in maintaining accessible, accurate and effective web content.
Requesting a new site or blog
New sites and blogs are considered within UC ANR's broader web ecosystem. Before requesting something new, we encourage teams to consider their audience and content needs, whether an existing UC ANR site could support the content, and who will be responsible for maintaining it over time.
