Rob Wilson named Interim Executive Director for Research and Extension Center System

As a result of recent leadership changes, I am happy to announce that Rob Wilson has agreed to serve as the UC ANR interim executive director for the Research and Extension Center (REC) System.

In this role, Rob will also retain his current positions as Intermountain Research and Extension Center Director and UCCE advisor in Siskiyou and Modoc counties. Although he will remain based at the Intermountain Research and Extension Center in Tulelake as UC ANR is a statewide organization, Rob is committed to being present and responsive across the REC System.

Rob brings 25 years of experience with UC ANR. He began his career in 2001 as a UC Cooperative Extension weed ecology and cropping systems advisor in Lassen County, and in 2009 was appointed as the UCCE agronomy and pest management advisor for Siskiyou and Modoc counties and director of the Intermountain Research and Extension Center.  From 2017 to 2023, he also served as the UCCE Siskiyou County director.

In addition to his longstanding research and extension work in pest management and sustainable food systems for crops grown in northeast California – including potatoes, onions, garlic, small grains and forages – Rob has served in a variety of roles representing the RECs and UCCE. He has represented the REC System in several systemwide groups related to strategic planning, budgeting and advocacy. He has actively participated in the development, implementation and updating of the REC System’s Strategic Framework. This combination of system knowledge and strategic leadership makes him well positioned to serve in the interim executive director role and lead the REC System as they implement their updated Strategic Framework.

Rob grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and earned his master’s degree in bio-agricultural sciences and pest management and bachelor’s degree in natural resources management from Colorado State University. Outside of work, he enjoys many outdoor hobbies including mountain biking, skiing, tennis and fishing.
