Knowing Your Audience: Enhancing Cultural Competency for Effective Engagement (Extension Foundation)

Explore the meaning and application of equity and cultural competence within Extension. This workshop starts by inviting the audience to look inwardly to connect with why this work is essential for everyone not just those serving minority communities. This workshop will combine research-based insights, Extension-focused case studies, and group discussions in order to encourage Extension professionals to reflect on their programs through the lens of getting to know their audiences better so that they can better adapt their programs to the diverse needs of their community members. Research-based tools will be provided to help participants through the process of evaluating their programs and tips and tricks will be shared with participants to help them make their programs more accessible and attractive to different audiences.

An Emerging Public Health Paradigm: Agriculture and Food Production for Health

Gulnihal (Rose) Ozbay is an associate dean for Extension and Applied Research and professor of Natural Resources and the director of Integrative Ph.D. Program in Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; Center for Integrated Biological and Environmental Research; and ONE Health Lab in the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology at Delaware State University. Ozbay received dual degrees in both environmental and food science disciplines and have successfully implemented integrative research and education programs focusing on environmental, animal, and human health.

Rod Wallace, PhD, is president of the Foundation for Innovation in Healthy Food), which brings evidence-based, high-impact nutrition solutions within reach by aligning science, markets and public policy. A Fulbright Fellow, he earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. He has played key roles in planning and execution of billion-dollar corporate investments from startups to Fortune 20 businesses. His global experience includes leadership roles in strategy consulting, marketing, sales and business development.

Extension Skills: Re-purposing Extension Content across multiple platforms

Learn how and why to re-purpose one Extension story into multiple outreach products: from an article to a blog post to a video and more. This session will focus on building a repeatable content workflow that helps educators adapt their messages across formats efficiently, while adapting the content for different target audiences to maximize reach and maintain relevance. Drawing on almost two decades of experience producing dozens of YouTube videos and writing a successful blog this session will focus on the value of engaging in the Online din, leveraging Extension’s positionality as a trusted, research-based source of information (with no ads), to reach local audiences at different scales.

Grant Writing Training Series (Extension Foundation)

This is an introduction to grant writing for researchers, farmers, farm advisors and community organization staff who have no experience or limited experience in designing, planning and preparing an effective grant proposal. Contents will include formulating ideas, transforming ideas into fundable concept, strategies to write a grant proposal, and building an effective team to collaborate. We will end with sources of funding and program information. Kathleen Liang at North Carolina A&T State University will offer three levels of workshops to assist agricultural producers, farm advisors and community organizations to enhance the ability of financial management and grant writing.  Each workshop will require registration

The first way you can do this is: Stop making inaccessible content and remove content that is outdated, duplicated, decorative or unnecessary so users can focus on what truly matters. Removing unnecessary or outdated content reduces clutter and helps make digital materials easier to access for everyone. Be looking for one short email each week with practical accessibility tips and quick how-to resources through April. You can focus on the tips most relevant to your role—whether you write reports, edit webpages, communicate with the public, design materials, or teach online.
