Welcome to the newly established UC ANR Policy Institute. This creation marks a pivotal moment for UC Agriculture and Natural Resources as we deepen our commitment to bridging the gap between science and policy for the benefit of all Californians.
The Policy Institute was born out of a clear and urgent need as identified by thousands of comments contributing to the UC ANR 2040 Vision: as our state faces increasingly complex challenges and an ever-changing regulatory environment, science-based input must have a seat at the decision-making table. Therefore, our mission is to conduct policy-relevant research and empower academics to engage meaningfully in the policy arena, providing data-driven insights to inform local, state, and federal policy decisions.
In this role, I am honored to lead a dynamic team of experts, including Interim Associate Directors Karen Jetter, JoLynn Miller, and Yana Valachovic, who bring deep expertise in agriculture economics, youth and community development, and natural resources and forestry. Together, we are building a resource that connects policymakers with researchers who bring conducting cutting-edge research and ideas to the policy table.
