What is 4-H Cooking Academy? The 4-H Cooking Academy Project is a cooking-based nutrition education program that teaches youth basic nutrition and cooking skills. The 4-H Cooking Academy aims to improve youth attitudes, knowledge and skills in food choices and preparation.
- Youth prepare, cook, and try new foods in each lesson.
- Each cooking lesson also includes a nutrition component.
- Kitchens are not necessary. Electric skillets and griddles are used.
- Virtual content is available to lead this project without in-person meetings.
- Projects are led by youth teen leaders, with the support of of an adult coach.
- 4-H, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), and CalFresh staff partnered to administer the project in Sacramento County.
