Maggi Kelly

Director

I have been with UCANR and UC Berkeley since 1999. Currently I am Professor and Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Environmental Science, Policy and Management department and affiliated Professor of Geography at UC Berkeley. I love all aspects of mapping: historical maps, remote sensing, participatory mapping, and UAVs, and I love chatting with people about their mapping goals. I am dedicated to bringing cutting-edge mapping technology, training, and research support to students, staff, faculty, and the public.

Program Coordinator

I enjoy applying my broad background in environmental studies and data science technologies to develop new applications of geospatial and data management technology for research and extension. My latest project involves developing software tools to simplify working with climate data in R. Drop me a note or sign-up for Office Hours to discuss all things geospatial including working with spatial data in R, drone mapping, data management tools, GIS, going from questions to workflows, and 360 photography.

Drone Services Head

I have been an Academic Coordinator with the UCANR IGIS Statewide Program since 2014, and am located at the Davis ANR office. I am interested in all aspects of geospatial science, however my specialties are in remote sensing and drone technology. In recent years I have acquired extensive experience in drone applications, and have become the drone oversite administrator for UCANR. I also greatly enjoy providing training workshops related to drone applications, GIS, web mapping, and mobile data collection, for both our UC affiliates and for the public, in the spirit of UCANR's Cooperative Extension mission.

GIS Programmer

I've just completed a Master of Forestry degree at UC Berkeley, and come to IGIS with a background in natural resources management and conservation planning with USDA-NRCS. I use GIS and data science methods to address questions emerging from our ever-changing socio-ecological systems, particularly relating to fire, forests, and rangelands. While I dabble in integrating social science and GIS methodologies, I have done extensive spatial analysis, data wrangling, and mapping in R and ArcGIS.

GIS Analyst

I have broad experience in implementing advanced spatial and statistical analysis to examine problems at the intersection of environmental health and justice, public health, built environment and urban planning. I am excited about harnessing the use of maps and spatial tools for decision-making, for advocacy, and working on geospatial projects with broad implications for public policy. I find it fascinating how maps can tell different stories, depending on the distribution of the data, underlying measurement used to create the map, and the role map classification and symbology play. Reach out to me when you have questions related to enriching your project with relevant spatial datasets or brainstorming ideas about communicating the impact of your work through story maps and web-based tools.
