We Are Your Local Problem-Solving Center
The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) office for Plumas and Sierra Counties is part of a statewide system that makes research-based information available to the general public, local agencies, and other organizations. Backed by resources at the ten University of California campuses, our educational programs use practical information to address community challenges focused on sustaining agricultural vitality, enhancing natural resources, developing youth leadership skills, and helping communities shape sound public policy.
Program Areas
Plumas-Sierra 4-H
Our 4-H program helps young people discover and develop their potential and grow into competent, contributing, and caring citizens. Diverse pathways help young people enhance their leadership abilities and develop a wide range of life skills.
Livestock and Range Management
Our livestock and natural resources program addresses important issues at the interface of livestock production systems, natural resources management, and watershed health. Emphasis is on sustainable commercial beef cattle and small ruminant production systems.
Forests and Fire
Our forest and natural resources program aims to provide the best and latest research-based information for all who live, work, and play in the forests of the Lost Sierra. Focus areas include forest resilience, post-fire reforestation, fuels management, forest health, monitoring, and more.
Agricultural and Invasive Weeds
Our weed science program includes agricultural (rangeland and crop) and invasive weed control (chemical, mechanical, cultural, and biological control), weed ecology, weed monitoring and forecasting, vegetation restoration, and integrated control strategies.
