Granny Smith Apples

Hey Granny!

The granny smith apple originated from Australia. It's named after Maria Ann Smith. She propagated it by chance. The apples are a crisp, little tart and have lots of fiber. This time of year, I'm always grateful for our apple trees.

Gray Hairstreak Butterfly

We found this funny-faced visitor in the garden this summer. The Gray Hairstreak (or Common Hairstreak), Strymon melinus, is a common butterfly found in all 48 contiguous states. It is often found in weedy and disturbed areas.
