Dylan Beal has served as the IPM Entomology Farm Advisor for Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties since September 2024. In addition to his county assignments, he is also a member of the UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program. His extension and applied research program promotes the development and adoption of integrated pest management of arthropod pests in leafy greens, berries, and cole crops through collaborative projects with growers and pest control advisors across the Central Coast. His past and current work has focused on pest monitoring networks, biological control, behavioral control, and cultural control of insect pests of greenhouse ornamentals, wine grapes, cherries, caneberries, strawberries, lettuce, and brassica crops. Additionally, he provides diagnostic services for insect and arthropod pests in commercial agricultural systems.
He authors posts on Salinas Valley Agriculture Blog and also contributes to the Strawberries and Caneberries Blog. Additionally, his program, in collaboration with Ian Grettenberger of UC Davis and Daniel Hasegawa of USDA-ARS provides updates on weekly thrips, aphids, and diamondback moth captures through the Salinas Valley Lettuce Pest Monitoring Tool.
