Missy Gable

Missy Gable is the Director of the UC Master Gardener Program, a statewide program of University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) that engages more than 6,000 trained volunteers in delivering research-based gardening education to communities across California. Since 2013, Missy has provided academic and administrative leadership for the program’s network of staff, academics, and volunteers serving 52 counties and reaching millions of Californians each year.

Missy’s work focuses on building the capacity of the UC Master Gardener Program to meet California’s most pressing environmental and community needs through accessible, science-based gardening education. She provides strategic direction, program development, policy leadership, advocacy, and organizational support while working to strengthen the connections among UC research, local communities, and the volunteers who bring that knowledge to life. Her areas of focus include water conservation and drought resilience, wildfire preparedness and recovery, food security, climate resilience, and healthy, sustainable communities.

Missy is passionate about the power of gardening education to create meaningful change, from helping Californians grow food and conserve water to building community resilience in the face of drought, fire, and a changing climate. She is particularly committed to ensuring that the UC Master Gardener Program remains innovative, responsive, and well-positioned to serve California’s diverse communities for generations to come.
