A Lasting Legacy of Health in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties
As the CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) program concludes on September 30, we are celebrating our communities’ commitment to health across SLO and SB Counties. Rather than simply ending services, the CFHL program spent our final year ensuring our impact remains institutionalized.
The results are significant: we reached over 2,000 direct participants and thousands more through high-volume outreach, including targeted campaigns for Sunbucks and National Farmers Market Week. In Santa Barbara, the "Healthy Happy Families" initiative drove lasting behavioral changes among Spanish-speaking parents, creating healthier home environments for the next generation.
The program's greatest success is its sustainability. Across the communities, 100% of systemic changes now have formal sustainability plans. Whether it is the transition to a volunteer-led model at the Lompoc Public Library, capacity building at New Love Family Resource Centers, or the new garden builds at Oakley and Hapgood Elementary, the tools for wellness now belong to the community.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the students, families, partners, volunteers, and UC ANR colleagues who helped build this foundation. While the funding cycle ends this month, the legacy of nutritional literacy remains firmly rooted in our communities.
