Oak Discovery Day

Event Description

Visit the Hopland Research and Extension Center for a day of learning and celebration of our local oak woodland ecosystem. Talk to oak experts, sign up for a guided walk, or make an oak inspired craft! This family friendly event will give visitors opportunities to create and explore, while learning more about California's iconic oaks. 

Educational booths will be set up on the patio of the Rod Shippey Hall, focused on community science projects, oak woodland management and regeneration, acorn processing, and oak identification.

An art show, featuring oak-themed art submitted by community members, will also be on display. For the kids and everyone looking to unleash their creativity, there will be a large art station featuring sun printing, stamping, painting, and more.

For those wanting to see more of the site, a variety of walks and tours will be held: 

• Nature Journaling with artist and ecologist Robin Lee Carlson

• Amazing Oaks of Hoplad REC with botanist Jen Riddell

• Oak Woodland guided walk with naturalist and author Kate Marianchild. 

• A performance of And Who Shall Heal the Ground, an original play organized by Quercus Collaborative member Diana Pepetone
