Master Food Preserver Program

UCCE Mariposa is proud to introduce you to the UC Master Food Preserver Program of Mariposa County! We train and certify Master Food Preserver volunteers every other year to go out into the community and spread information about safe home food preservation. We cover food safety, boiling water canning, atmospheric steam canning, pressure canning, cold storage (refrigeration and freezing), drying, pickling and fermenting.

Out & About in the Community

Our first training class in 2022 trained 17 volunteer Master Food Preservers from Mariposa, Merced, Madera and Fresno Counties. Now Mariposa has trained 63 Master Food Preservers and helped introduce new programs to Merced, Madera, Fresno and Tuolumne Counties. Our current 16 Master Food Preservers in Mariposa County would love to chat with you. Here are some locations where we can connect with you:

  • Mariposa Farmer's Market: every 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm at 6th and Stroming in Mariposa.
  • Mariposa County Fair: Labor Day Weekend every year. Find us in the Baked Goods and Food Preservation Building across from the Poultry Barn.
  • Plant-a-Row activities—we assist the Master Gardener Program in collecting and distributing fresh produce to help ensure food security for the community.
  • Farm to School events—we work with Master Gardeners and local farms to offer field trips and educational activities for youth to learn more about how their food is produced and gets to your table.
  • Periodic workshop and community events.
