Three Sisters Demonstration Garden

Entrance to the three sisters garden, with a sign saying, "Welcome, come on in"

The Three Sisters Demonstration Garden is a large project developed by University of California Cooperative Extension Madera County Master Gardener program in collaboration with Madera Community College as a permanent resource for residents of Madera County.

The Madera Master Gardeners maintain this beautiful demonstration garden on a 2-acre site on the campus of Madera Community College, located at 30277 Avenue 12, Madera, CA. This garden is free and open to the public to enjoy 24/7. If you would like to stop by to speak with a Master Gardener, we have workdays every Tuesday morning from 8am-10am.

Stop by and ask your gardening questions, learn about pest or weeds and enjoy strolling around this site.

Madera Iris Queen

The Three Sisters Garden is home to over 250 kinds of Iris.

Make sure to visit us in March/April when the iris are in full bloom. We have an event to sell iris at that time. You can pick up your iris rhizomes in July or August when we dig them up. In August we have an online iris sale. We have a few Madera Master Gardeners who are very knowledgeable about growing iris and would love to answer any questions you may have!

Support the Madera Master Gardeners by buying Iris! Check back later this summer for the link to our 2026 online iris sale.

Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation

WildlifeHabitat Madera Garden

Wildlife Habitat: In October 2019, The Three Sisters Garden became a Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation (Certification #236311)
Human activity has changed and eliminated habitat, locally, and on a global scale, and birds, butterflies, and other wildlife are pushed into ever-shrinking wilderness areas. Providing a sustainable habitat for wildlife begins with plants. Creating a wildlife garden reverses some of the human-caused habitat destruction that is hurting wildlife. Our wildlife garden includes the essentials needed by wildlife: food (seeds, nectar, fruit, pollen), water, cover, places to raise young, and sustainable practices. To learn more visit:

Little Free Library

Little Free Library Madera garden

To give back to the community and support education, a Little Free Library (Charter #99333) was added. The Library was hand built and installed by Jim.
Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small book exchanges number 60,000 around the world in 80 countries — from Iceland to Tasmania to Pakistan. Now, our Little Free Library will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers. Please feel free to stop by and pick up a book, or drop off a book to be read by others!
