Garden Notes

Tucked into a landlocked area is a one-acre teaching community garden that just a few short years ago was an empty field. Under the stewardship of a few immensely talented visionaries and many volunteers, that field of weeds and dreams is now a model garden that serves multiple purposes.

There is more to gardening than plain flowers, hedges and trees. With just a little imagination, you can create a beautiful and fun garden even your grandmother would enjoy.

Dandelion When true Spring finally envelops us, weeds pop up. Weed is an interesting word. It conjures up the negative but also the positive aspects of plants that have developed reproductive systems which disperse seeds by the thousands.

Your favorite, trusty garden shovel and trowel have been very well used through the years. Although now, they are beginning to get a little rusty, bent, scratched up, giving you slivers and maybe even broken in two.

Most of us on the mature side of 40 have heard of Carol Burnett, that witty American actress, singer, writer, and comedian of the last 60 years. One of my favorites and truly a great entertainer, she could make you smile or laugh without foul language or distasteful innuendos.
