Ana Maria Pastrana Leon
Ana M. Pastrana develops and implements an applied research and extension education program focused on the diagnosis, prevention, and management of plant diseases affecting field, fruit, horticultural, and vegetable crops in Imperial, Riverside, and San Diego counties. She serves primarily farm owners, farm managers, and pest control advisers primarily, while also working with regulatory agencies and agricultural industry personnel.
Her program emphasizes science-based disease management strategies that reduce economic, environmental, and social impacts of plant diseases. Through applied research, needs assessments, and close collaboration, she supports effective information transfer, early detection of emerging pathogens, and the development of locally relevant solutions for California agriculture.
