Reforestation Workshops
The scale of reforestation needed across California in the wake of wildfires requires an all hands, all lands approach. As more organizations join in the effort to tackle this issue, UC Cooperative Extension is proud to facilitate reforestation workshops across the state in collaboration with local partners.
Join us for an upcoming reforestation workshop hosted by the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts and UC Cooperative Extension to learn about reforestation concepts and build organizational capacity. RCD staff interested in attending may contact CARCD at leonel-solorio@carcd.org for registration details.
Upcoming Workshops
May 19-20, 2026: Meadow Valley, CA (Plumas County) (Registration Link)
Please note that space is limited and registration is prioritized for reforestation project managers in the Sierra Nevada Conservancy Service Area.
June 16-17, 2026: Hopland, CA (Mendocino County) (Registration Link)
Curriculum
Each workshop is designed to be a comprehensive crash course that teaches best management practices across all aspects of the reforestation process. Presentations by local experts combined with hands-on scenarios provide regionally tailored guidance to help participants start planning and implementing their own reforestation projects. Workshop topics include:
- Site assessment
- Site preparation
- Seedling selection and ordering
- Planting design
- Planting operations
- Post-planting monitoring
The Reforestation Manual for California Conifers (available for free online) goes in-depth into each of these topics and more. The manual provides the foundation for the workshop curriculum and is highly recommended reading for anyone new to reforestation.
