Gardening Resources

Welcome to gardening in Solano County! Whether you're just starting or have years of soil under your fingernails, you're in the right place. This page brings together research-based resources tailored to our Mediterranean climate and growing zones (9a–9b and 10a).

Start with the UC Master Gardener Gardening Resources for expert guidance on vegetables, fruit trees, pest management, water conservation, and more — all developed by University of California specialists.

We've also pulled together Solano County-specific resources to help you work with our unique conditions: hot, dry summers (often 90–100°F), mild wet winters, and the microclimates in between. A key planning note: our average last frost is around mid-February (Feb. 15), and our average first fall frost falls around late November (Nov. 28) — giving us a generous growing season of roughly 9 months.
