UC Master Gardeners of Merced County presents "Soil Health 101", a Public Workshop on Saturday, December 13th from 10 am - 12 noon.
Presenter: Sara Rosenburg, Ph.D. Regenerative Agriculture Farm Advisor
Topics covered in this workshop are:
-Learn about soil's physical, chemical, and biological properties
-Understand what healthy soil is
-Hands on activities to demonstrate soil health properties
-Learn easy management ideas to improve your garden's soil health

Soil Sampling
Collect a sample
- Remove surface debris
- Collect few individual “cores” or slices from different locations testing area to a depth of 6” with a spade/trowel dig a small hole then take a 1” thick slice from the side of the hole
- Collect the same amount of soil from each hole
- Place core samples into a clean bucket. Mix cores thoroughly to create a single sample
- Fill soil sample bag with about a pint of mixed soil
- Bring soil to "Soils" Workshop
