Fall Garden Fair Herbs

There are many herbs that grow well, or even best, in the cool season in Santa Clara County. Fall is also a great time to plant perennial herbs because it lets them get well established during our rainy season.

Listed below are the herb seedlings that we will be offering.

Garlic Chives, Allium tuberosum
Flat, strappy leaves with a sweet garlic/chive flavor. White flowers are edible. Will reseed. Perennial, full sun. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall and 12 inches wide.

Cilantro, OP
Fresh cilantro leaves have an intense and tangy flavor. Allow the seeds to develop for fresh coriander seeds. Grows 10 inches tall. Space plants 6 to 8 inches apart. Annual

Cilantro Confetti, OP
Slow to bolt gourmet variety with more subtly flavored, feathery leaves. Grows 18 to 24 inches tall. Space plants 12 to 15 inches apart.

Lemon Verbena, Aloysia triphylla
Shrub/small tree with lemon-scented leaves. Spikes of tiny flowers in summer. Use to flavor teas and iced drinks. Deciduous shrub/tree, low/occasional water, full/half sun. Grows 6 to 12 feet tall and wide.

Parsley Giant of Italy, Petroselinum crispum
Huge dark leaves with great flavor. Prized variety for culinary use. Grows 18 to 20 inches tall. Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart.

Yellow-green leaves with long sprays of bright red tubular flowers

Pineapple Sage, Salvia elegans
Pineapple-scented leaves can be dried and used in herbal teas. Bright red flowers in summer attract hummingbirds. Perennial, regular water, part sun. Grows 3 to 5 feet tall and wide.
