The 10-week course combines classroom, online, and field experiences in earth systems, water, energy and agriculture; as well as communication training, citizen science, and community service opportunities. Students participate in 40 hours of classroom/field instruction with local climate experts, and approximately 20 hours of learning outside of class. After certification, UC Climate Stewards will be encouraged to volunteer in activities ranging from community and citizen science, land and water stewardship, civic engagement, and education and interpretation activities.

The training will include an overview of state and local climate policies so that Climate Stewards is a catalyst for public participation in California’s climate change initiatives.

Organization Description: The mission of the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History is to inspire discovery, wonder, and stewardship of our natural world. The Museum is now offering the new UC Climate Stewards certification course and the California Naturalist certificate course. The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History is a living field guide of the California Central Coast. In 1883, the museum opened its doors among the first wave of natural history museums in America. Naturalists of this era began a national tradition of hands-on science education and nature preservation. The museum has continued this tradition for 130 years.
